Katerina-City Hotel welcomed its first guests in 1998. A 19th-century mansion was converted and completely refurbished to house the hotel. Its guests appreciated the comfortable rooms and excellent service, which quickly made the hotel's reputation in the local business community and among foreign tourists. The hotel's popularity led to an ever increasing number of visitors, so in 2000 a second building named Catherine II has been opened for guests. Catherine I and Catherine II have been merged, providing a literal connection between the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. Both buildings have a "Swedish style" design. Thus their differences do not interfere with either the spirit of their time or their individuality.

Katerina-City received numerous awards for quality services provided to its guests including awards from the Moscow and the Russian Foundation for the Protection of Consumer Rights. In 2004, Katerina City was named "Best Hotel in Moscow" and "Best Hotel in Russia".
